Jennifer Lopez

 

Jennifer W. Lopez is the Commercial Innovation Technology Lead at the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS) identifying, developing, and fostering space-based commercial R&D and breakthrough innovations for the International Space Station U.S. National Laboratory.

Research areas under her leadership include in-space manufacturing, IT & communications (e.g. artificial intelligence, IoT, data applications, virtual reality, laser communications), robotics, electronics, and other emerging technologies. As the Technology Lead, Jennifer is responsible for the optimization of new technology advancements maximizing utilization of the ISS for terrestrial benefit, helping to pave the way toward commercialization of low Earth orbit and successful future orbiting platforms.

As the Founding Member of NASA’s Datanaut Corps in the Technology and Open Innovation Division of the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), Jennifer is shaping the direction of the program inspiring future engineers, data scientists, and entrepreneurs who share a passion for learning and exploration to engage with NASA’s open data from NASA missions to research, answering challenges in technology, aeronautics, the space station, our planet and the solar system.

Jennifer serves on the Advisory Council for the Physics and Astronomy Department at Johns Hopkins University, a world leader in groundbreaking research in condensed matter physics, particle physics, astronomy and astrophysics. The Advisory Council is spearheading efforts to support the Cosmology Large-Angular Scale Surveyor or CLASS, a high-powered telescope based in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile, analyzing 13.8 billion-year-old radiation data emanating from the origins of the Universe.

Jennifer is a 2017 National Geographic Emerging Explorer, a Key Influencer for the Weizmann Institute of Science, Tomorrow Lab - Advancing Science for the Benefit of Humankind, and recognized by Fast Company along with Brian Krzanich, Angela Merkel, Howard Schultz, and Janet Mock as one of the 5 Best Leaders of 2015.
