Steven Haft
Steven Haft is currently SVP Innovation at Time Inc., largest magazine publisher in the U.S. and U.K. and owner of such iconic brands as TIME, FORTUNE, and PEOPLE Magazines.
Prior to joining Time, Steven Haft built Indyworks, a media consultancy, where over the past decade he established himself as a thought leader on the impacts of emerging technology on media for clients ranging from the CEOs of Comcast Cable, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the College Television Network, AirMedia in Beijing China and the two largest Public Relations firms in the World – Edelman and Burson-Marstellar.
In 2000, Steven Haft launched his digital career joining AOL, rising to the role of VP/Chief Strategy Officer of AOL’s $1.2 billion Interactive Marketing Group. Haft returned to AOL in 2012-13 as Senior Strategic Advisor.
For two decades prior, Haft produced films and television programs which garnered 8 Academy Award nominations; BAFTA, Cesar, Donatello Awards and, for television, 8 Emmy nominations and the Peabody Award. He filmed throughout the USA, Western and Eastern Europe. Highlights of this work include “Dead Poets Society”, “Emma”, “Pirates of Silicon Valley” and “MADtv”.
Since the 1970s, Steven Haft has been a civic leader around Environmental issues, Human Rights and Arts in Education.
He currently serves on the Board of Terramar, the United Nations NGO which lead the effort in 2015 to pass the Clean Oceans provision of the Sustainable Development Goals. He is also an Advisory Board Member of the Global Partnerships Forum, the most prolific host of initiatives between business, civil society and the United Nations.
Haft is an elected Member of the Motion Picture Academy and Trustee (Emeritus) of Robert Redford’s Sundance Institute. Mayor Bloomberg appointed Haft to the Board of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Corporation, where he remains.
He is Vice Chair of the Presidential Scholars Foundation, a program of the White House and the US Department of Education and STEM Advisor to the Center for the Study of The Presidency & Congress.
These decades of civic engagement began with Haft’s work for The Mayor of the City of New York, the John D. Rockefeller IIIrd Fund, the John Hay Whitney Foundation, the United Automobile Workers, the ACLU and as a co-founder of the original EARTH DAY, April 22 1970.
Haft is a member of The Bar of the U. S. Supreme Court.
