Billy DiMichele
In his more than 17 years at Scholastic, Billy has produced hundreds of the company’s multi-media events, and videos, and overseen a number of large-scale corporate creative initiatives including the newest brand position and reading initiative, Open a World of Possible, which launched in Fall 2014.
As an event producer, his career highlights include, Harry Potter Place, a live interactive experience attended by more than 20,000 people for the launches of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2005) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (2007), An Evening with Harry Carrie & Garp, a literacy event and fundraiser with J.K. Rowling, Stephen King and John Irving at Radio City Music Hall, the Open Book Tour, J.K. Rowling’s final US Harry Potter book tour, and sixteen consecutive Scholastic Art & Writing Awards National Ceremonies at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. and at Carnegie Hall in NYC.
In 2008, Billy initiated the production of live webcasts into schools nationwide and around the world. These webcasts have allowed close to 60 million children to virtually visit iconic landmarks and locations in America, explore history and science, learn mathematics, and listen to literature and music icons J.K. Rowling, David Baldacci, Dav Pilkey, Lowis Lowry, Jeff Kinney, R.L. Stine, Taylor Swift and Usher discuss books, reading, and writing.
Billy has served on multiple boards, including America Gives Back (the American charity supporting UK-based Comic Relief) and The Actors Company Theatre, a New York Off-Broadway theater company. He currently serves on their Advisory Board, and is the Board Chair for LUMOS, USA, a children’s charity founded by J.K. Rowling.
Billy is the recipient of multiple Webby and Telly Awards, as well as the 2003 Emmy Award. He lives in New York City.
