Carl Goodman is Executive Director of Museum of the Moving Image. He has worked at the Museum for more than 20 years, having joined in 1989 as an educator. Prior to his appointment as Director in March 2011, Carl was the Museum’s Senior Deputy Director, overseeing all public programming, education, and collections initiatives, and supervising the Museum’s use and study of digital media. Over the years, he has served in a variety of capacities, including Curator of Digital Media, and as Director of New Media Projects, overseeing the development of the Museum’s innovative web projects, including The Living Room Candidate, an online exhibition about the history of presidential campaign commercials, and Moving Image Source, the Museum’s widely read online publication and research portal. Carl has organized many exhibitions for the Museum, including Computer Space, a history of video games; <ALT> DigitalMedia, a gallery of software-based art; and Real Virtuality, the inaugural exhibition in the expanded and renovated building, which is currently on view. He also guided the production of the Museum’s highly popular interactive experiences in its core exhibition Behind the Screen. His early years at the Museum overlapped with a lengthy period when he was active in New York as a composer of music for film, theater and dance.
